10 Labiaplasty Recovery Tips

Women considering labiaplasty surgery to rejuvenate their vaginal appearance should understand the surgical process, including recovery. A labiaplasty could keep you sidelined from your typical routine for one to two weeks, but a complete recovery takes longer.

To aid healing and shorten your recuperation, please review the following 10 tips.

1. Take Medication as Instructed

Prescription and over-the-counter medications play a role in the healing process to alleviate itching, swelling, and discomfort during recovery. Read and follow all directions carefully.

2. Cold Compresses

Cold compresses are another method to get relief after a labiaplasty. Place a thin barrier like a washcloth between the ice pack and treatment site, then apply cold therapy in 20-minute intervals.

3. Healthy Diet

To heal efficiently, your body needs plenty of fuel and nutrients. Replace junk foods with fresh produce, lean protein, and whole grains. Also, drink plenty of water to stay hydrated.

4. Don’t Drink or Smoke

While you are healing from your labiaplasty, refrain from alcohol and tobacco. Drinking and smoking can slow the healing process and extend your recovery.

5. Avoid Strenuous Activities

Because your body needs time to heal, stay away from the gym and other strenuous activities until your surgeon approves you to return.

6. Lubricate

For the first two weeks, you will receive lubricants to keep your surgical sutures moist and prevent them from drying out. Wash your hands thoroughly before lubricating the treatment area.

7. Rest

After any surgical procedure, rest is the best cure. Make sure you have someone available to drive you home after surgery and help you around the house for the next couple of days. Sleep and relax as much as possible early on.

8. Move Around

Though rest is critical in the healing process, you should move around the house every so often to avoid blood clotting. A gentle walk around the house or in the yard is fine. Avoid long walks, however.

9. Change Surgical Dressings

Your surgical wound needs to remain clean and dry, so change your dressings often. This process will also help you keep an eye on the wound to look out for any signs of infection. Drainage is normal, and you can wear period panties or a pad to absorb it. Sit on a round, inflatable cushion to avoid putting excess pressure on the surgical wound.

10. Wear Loose Clothing

After surgery, don’t wear tight-fitting garments like yoga pants, thongs, and skinny jeans. By wearing loose, comfortable clothing like baggy sweats or pajamas, you can avoid pressure and chafing.
